Today’s Featured Company: DrinkFly
Have you ever opened the fridge and felt the overwhelming disappointment of only having one beer left? How about hosting a wine party and the stock is draining faster than expected but you can’t make a run. Now let’s say you’re celebrating a huge quarter for your company and want to throw a party. All the food is being catered, the decorations are ordered, but how are you supposed to buy booze and champagne for 200 people?
The answer is the next installment in our “The City of Big Startups” blog series: DrinkFly
Drinkfly is a free downloadable app and website where thirsty (of age) consumers can order beer, wine, and liquor and have it delivered to their door in 60 minutes or less.
Launched by brothers Alex and Will Cullen in April 2014, DrinkFly was created to satisfy a demand every adult has had at least once in their life. Although the company is still in its infancy, the Cullen brothers have large plans for the future. They offered this statement when asked about their 5-Year Plan.
“Our main goal is to expand geographically as quickly as possible in order to increase our user base. Once we get to a certain user base level, we will be able to sell ads to liquor companies.”
As for capital, DrinkFly has not raised any outside funds to date. Alex and Will have supplied all the cash to get DrinkFly off the ground but they will be seeking capital in the next term and are considering equity crowdfunding:
“We are looking to raise $500K-$1MM in the near term. Prior to finding out about truCrowd we were unaware that equity crowdfunding existed. Now that we are aware, we are considering equity crowdfunding as a means to raise capital.”
When asked about their favorite thing about being a startup in Chicago, the Cullen Bros. were all business:
“The tech scene in Chicago is booming. It’s a great time to be a startup in a city that has a ton of resources for startup tech companies.”
Well I can tell you one thing, DrinkFly is soon going to be one of my favorite things about living in Chicago. And I know I am not alone here.
